Arm Chair Sewing Caddy
Here are a couple of photos of an arm chair sewing caddy I made to send Mom for Mother's Day. I used McCall's Pattern 2452, which has some really cute sewing accessories. In recent years, my Mom has become a quilter. I've been quilting since 1990 and tried to get her interested too. She would always say, "No, that's not for me. Too many small pieces." Well, a few years ago she showed up at a senior center for a calligraphy class and found out it had been cancelled. She was told they were starting a quilting class if she was interested, and she reluctantly signed up for it. And now she is hooked and my Mom is my quilting buddy. She started out with sane quilts as so many crazy quilters do.
Since beginning crazy quilting in earnest in 2002, I send her a sample of just about every small project I stitch. She oohs and ahhs over the embroidery and crazy piecing, and to this day refuses to use most of the items I send her. I told her, Mom, you hate to match the seams of all those tiny pieces in sane quilting, why don't you try crazy quilting! She wouldn't do it. That is, until she came to visit in October and I showed her how easy it was to make a needlecase or a scissor case. Since then, she still makes sane quilts, but her real joy is making small CQ projects to give as gifts. She has made about 30 needle and scissor cases, and now she has moved on to making tissue box covers. With Mother's Day coming up, I figured this arm chair sewing caddy would be a great gift for her. I'll be putting it in her gift package along with a chicken bumble pincushion, of course! Gotta sew...

I love the story of your mom and quilting! What great times I imagine you have together sharing this interest.
